Morphological awareness is a crucial predictor of reading success and a powerful component that can be taught to improve reading outcomes. One activity I do to help students think about the morphemes in a word is to compare like-sounding words and sort them based on whether or not they contain the target morphemes, or spell them after thinking about their morphemes.
